Technology - investing in client service
At ByrneWallace we invest intelligently in IT in terms of hardware, software and personnel. We view this investment as vital in providing an efficient and cost effective legal service to our clients. We have the technology to ensure all our fee-earners work as efficiently as possible for our clients' benefit.
IT security
We are extremely security conscious. Confidentiality is fundamental to the provision of legal advice. We were one of the first law firms in Ireland to implement VMware virtual technology which we use as the basis of our IT Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans. The major benefit is that all data is securely protected in the event of any hardware failure so that service to our clients would continue as normal, with zero downtime. All our systems are protected with the latest anti-virus and spyware software, and all data is backed up daily and sent offsite to secure vaults. Our lawyers are equipped with email-enabled Blackberry devices and all our technologies are secured and encrypted in the event of theft or loss, providing our clients with peace of mind.
Case management
We employ the latest case management and reporting technologies, which provides our clients with major efficiency and productivity benefits. We build case management plans to govern basic case management requirements such as conflict checks, confirmation of instructions or costs, to highly complicated, multi-branched case management plans which help coordinate the most complex of cases. We adapt our case management plans to the needs of our clients. We capture input from the client to enable development of best practice case management plans/workflows. These case management plans can be viewed and navigated by your solicitor to aid assessment of requirements, progress and timelines. The benefits for the client include the highest levels of quality assurance, risk management and monitoring whilst lowering the unit case cost. We provide validation of data for speed and accuracy, thereby enabling the fast turnaround times our clients demand.
Record management
Our record management policy covers the creation, maintenance, use and disposal of records in all forms and formats. Our record management system is bar-coded and web-based, allowing both legal staff and the record management team to identify and retrieve records very quickly. This provides our clients with the assurance that we maintain an auditable history of all legal records and achieve the highest levels of compliance with our statutory record keeping requirements.
Document management
We invest intelligently in systems and processes designed to facilitate the identification and dissemination of the firm’s collective knowledge, experience and expertise. We have implemented Interwoven’s class leading document management system. This enables all case-related material (emails, faxes, word files, maps etc) to be logically filed and readily retrieved through its enterprise search technology. For the client, this means we provide accurate and succinct information in a timely fashion, saving time on document searches, increasing document security and eliminating the duplication of information.
Document discovery
In order to make the whole process of discovery of documents more efficient we have invested in a third party product called ‘'Summation'. Summation is now used in all relevant cases and provides quick access to documents whether privileged or non-privileged as required at court appearances.
Digital dictation
Digital dictation is widely used within the firm both as a desktop tool and a mobile tool. Dictations are tagged so those with a higher importance weighting are prioritised for production by a pool of secretaries including a group of night secretaries. We were the first law firm in Ireland to use mobile digital dictation technology on Blackberries, giving us the ability to dictate from anywhere and upload the dictation directly to secretaries' desktops thereby further improving our response times on client matters.
We have and will continue to invest intelligently in our IT systems, process and people in order to improve the level of service we provide to you. Our IT strategy ensures that we deliver a value for money legal service to our clients, in as efficient and controlled a manner as possible, without compromising essential client service quality.
