Darren is a Partner in the firm's Corporate Department and heads up the firms ICT Group. Darren advises a broad range of technology and digital media companies on both general corporate law matters and also on intellectual property, ICT, e-commerce, cloud computing and data protection issues. Darren particularly focuses on advising technology companies on establishment issues such as company formations, intellectual property protection and grant funding and further advises on seed and growth stage fundraisings, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and general commercial contracts such as agency and distribution arrangements, franchising and outsourcing agreements. Darren also has extensive experience in advising clients on specialist intellectual property matters (primarily copyright, patents, trademarks and designs), ICT (including software development and licensing), the legal aspects of e-commerce and online trading (including SaaS and cloud computing issues), Web2.0 and social media legal issues and data protection. Darren is recommended in several publications as a leading lawyer in the intellectual property and ICT sectors.

  • Advising Adaptive Mobile Security Limited in relation to worldwide Reseller Agreements with Nokia and Symantic Corporation.
  • Advising CR2 Limited in relation to its international software licensing agreements.
  • Advising the shareholders of LeT Systems on a management buy out and subsequent sale of the company to Trimble Navigation Inc
  • Advising the HSE in relation to multi million euro and IT procurement / licensing agreements with GE Medical, Carestream International and HP.
  • Advising Lecayla Technologies in relation to its SaaS (software as a service) licensing arrangements with customers and subsequent sale of the company to OpSource Inc.
  • Advising Lucey Technology Limited on general IP matters and SaaS software licensing arrangements.
  • Advised New-Game Technologies Limited on a software licensing transaction with Trinity College Dublin.
  • Advised Pan-Index Limited on a high value software development, maintenance and hosting agreement relating to the development of a new technology platform for the company's spread betting brokerage activities.
  • Advised Soft-Ex Communications Limited in relation to its commercial agreements with some of Europe's leading telecommunications providers.
  • Advising Atamia Limited on the establishment and operation of www.faceoffgames.com a website that allows games players to play games against each other for stakes wagered by the players.
  • dvised Brite:Bill on its online terms and conditions and recent successful equity fundraising.
  • Advised two of Irelands largest retail groups in relation to online brand protection issues concerning social media websites.
  • Acted for AIM and IEX listed First Derivatives plc in connection with the ICT aspects of the acquisition of the business and assets of certain members of the Cognotec Group (In Receivership)
  • Advised Bentley Systems on the establishment of an international Shared Services, Sales and Marketing Centre in Dublin
  • Advised Irish software outsourcing and consultancy firm, IFSD Percana Group, on several large scale IT related projects including advising on a licensing deal with the British Friendly Societies and advising on the ICT aspects of the clients BPO outsourcing deal with Pearl Group (a Top 10 UK Life Assurer)
  • Advising SPSS Ireland on a Reseller Agreement with IBM.
  • Advised Zapa Technology in relation to its licensing arrangements with technology partners
