Gavin joined the firm in 2008 as a partner, having previously worked in another leading Dublin law firm. Since qualifying, Gavin has practised exclusively in the areas of commercial litigation, insolvency and corporate recovery. He has extensive experience in a wide range of commercial litigation matters with particular emphasis on: high value contractual and tortious disputes; shareholder and investment disputes; securities litigation and insider dealing proceedings; professional negligence; judicial review proceedings; pension scheme disputes and policy disputes in insurance and reinsurance contracts. 

He has particular experience in relation to Commercial Court proceedings and other dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation. Gavin also has a strong background in insolvency and corporate recovery having been involved in advising appointed liquidators, receivers and examiners. He also has experience in advising companies and their directors on insolvency-related issues.

Key transaction experience

  • Advising banks in relation to their dealings with distressed borrowers and work outs.
  • Represented Insurers in the defence of Commercial Court proceedings brought relating to the cancellation of a concert in Slane, Co. Meath in September 2005.
  • Represented defendants in first ever civil action in the High Court and Supreme Court for insider dealing.
  • Experience in advising court appointed Inspectors in relation to their investigation and report into the affairs of National Irish Bank.
  • Represented the Plaintiffs in the first ever Commercial Court case brought in Ireland since its inception in January 2004.
  • Represented numerous shareholders in a number of High Court and commercial Court Section 205 shareholder oppression cases in both plaintiff and defendant capacities.
  • Represented Trustees in a pension scheme dispute before High Court and the Pensions Board.
  • Represented a property developer in judicial review proceedings in the commercial court.
  • Represented liquidator of pharmaceuticals group in commercial court proceedings and in a successful multi-party mediation.
  • Represented both Liquidators and Directors in relation to the bringing of and the defence of Section 150 and Section 160 restriction and disqualification proceedings.
