Green Technologies and Knowledge
Sector
Ireland’s target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% by 2020 depends to a large extent on the development of green, low carbon technologies.
Green technologies are those that operate to prevent or reduce waste, emissions and pollution at source (as opposed prevention or reduction after they have been created – e.g. recycling). They are products, systems and services which, by design either: use resources from more sustainable sources; transform resources to deliver similar functions with less resources; transform resources with less waste; or transform resources with waste designed to be recycled effectively.
