William Johnston is a Consultant in the ByrneWallace LLP Banking & Finance Team.
William is recognised as one Ireland’s pre-eminent lawyers in banking & finance law. A former partner with another large Dublin law firm for 30 years, William has extensive knowledge, expertise and practice advising on banking, capital markets and financial regulation.
William has been ranked for many years a tier 1 lawyer in the banking & finance section by Chambers Global which described William as “a highly respected figure in the field of banking and finance”.
The first chair from Ireland of the International Bar Association’s Banking Law Division, William is the Law Society’s external examiner in banking law. He has recently published the long-awaited second edition of "Banking and Security Law in Ireland”, a comprehensive update on the law in practice covering the many changes in the 22 years since its first publication in 1998.
William is currently Honorary Secretary and Board member of the National Maternity Hospital, and member of the Board of the Housing Finance Agency plc, Port of Waterford Company, and Petroswede Insurance Company.
